Stonefly Selection - one of our Early Season flies.
Our new selection contains 18 Stonefly imitations - all nymphs in various colours and sizes - all you need for a great day on the water in April, these are great early season flies.
When fishing with Stonefly imitations here are a few tips:
Adult Females - Return to the water to lay their eggs, they generally slap the water with their abdomen to release the eggs; and this is like the dinner bell for the waiting trout! This is when the trout take them as dry flies; rise forms can sometimes be very splashy and sometimes a generic "head and tail", but if you ever see stoneflies in the air, then it's always worth tying on an imitation, especially in early mornings and late evenings.
Nymphs - Stonefly nymphs hatch in the river/stillwater bed, then swim to the water's edge and crawl up bankside vegetation before they hatch into an adult. These Stonefly nymphs are best fished during the morning once the Stonefly hatch has started. Check the bankside vegetation during a hatch to get an idea for the colour to use.
This selection contains:
Nymphs - Black Stonefly - sizes 12, 14 & 16 - 3 of each
- Nymphs - Yellow Stonefly - size 12, 14 & 16 - 3 of each
In total this selection of Stonefly imitations contains 18 flies, all supplied in our eco-friendly recyclable packaging.
