The Barbless Grunter Selection
The Grunter fly - Looks strange, but catches fish - in fact, catches loads of fish. We have been requested to have these flies available, so here they are.
A great fly to use as a searching pattern also works really well when there are any sort of Sedge on the water. Try this fly in rougher water, the hackle is tied long so the fly sits high on the water and can easily be seen (by both fish and humans!).
Tied with a natural hare dubbed body, and two hackles (Partridge & Brown Cock Saddle), all topped off with a CdC feather at the head. Looks odd, but it really works.
These flies are also tied with a CDC wing post, not to make it float, but to act as a small sail - this allows the fly to catch any breeze and move on the surface. This combined with the soft-hackle legs makes them irresistible. If there are no fish rising, try one of these!
