If you don't know your Pheasant Tail from your Hairy Mary

As we are now in Christmas week - for all of you who've left it a little too late for that special gift, there's a perfect way to give any fly angler exactly the flies they want - even if you don't know what they are:

A Christmas Carol (But With Fly Rods)

It was Christmas Eve 2024 ... There I was - fourth pint in, sat by the fire at my local - when three spirits visited me. Well, not spirits exactly. More like three crushing realisations about fly fishing that hit me like a December Grayling on 7X.

The Twixtmass 'Blank' Saver - Your Christmas Fishing Passport

Today's the 16th of December, right now, you're probably feeling quite chipper about Christmas. The decorations are up, presents are wrapped (or at least thought about), and you're genuinely looking forward to a few days off work. Mulled wine seems like a good idea, and family time sounds lovely.

The 2025 Barbless Flies Xmas Gift Guide

Thinking Inside The Box - The Barbless Flies Xmas Selection (fly) Box

It seems like we are now well on our way to Xmas - with our local Xmas tree seller doing a roaring trade from the back of his truck and all the locals out-doing each other with the lights on their houses. We always struggle when it comes to Xmas, we don't want to do anything tacky (with a small 't'), but we do want to offer something which we think you will love, and use regularly in the new year (and beyond):

Flies That Were Too Good At Their Job - The Killer Bugs

"There's something quite ironic about a fly pattern which was so effective that it almost wrote itself out of existence." Picture this: It's the 1930s on the River Avon in Wiltshire. Frank Sawyer – the legendary riverkeeper who'd go on to create the Pheasant Tail Nymph – has a problem.
