You Asked (A Lot). We've Delivered.

For the last few years, we’ve had one constant request, I get around ten emails a month asking this: “When are you bringing out some Barbless Flies t-shirts, hats & hoodies?” Well … today’s the day we dip our toes into the 'apparel' marketplace!

Pisces 1 - A Nymphing Rod For Us 'Normal' Anglers

I'd like to start this missive with a little bit of a confession ... I'm a bit of a tackle tart at heart, as you probably know if you've been a part of our community for some time. This is one of the reasons I started our Pisces Collective (a home for the curious and inventive fly angler) earlier this year.

A Nymphing Rod Is Born - Pisces 1 - The Missing Link

I'd like to start this missive with a little bit of a confession ... I'm a bit of a tackle tart at heart, as you probably know if you've been a part of our community for some time. This is one of the reasons I started our Pisces Collective (a home for the curious and inventive fly angler) earlier this year.

Grayling Leaders - Grab a brew, this could be a long one!

As we are now just getting into the Grayling season (I know it may not seem like it with the unseasonably warmer weather we're currently experiencing) and the fish are still spread all over the river (as soon as the frosts start to bite, Grayling will shoal up), I thought it would be a good time to do a deep dive into Grayling-specific leaders and techniques.

Even Easier Take Detection with our Specialist 'Euro Style' Nymphing Fly Line

These specialist nymphing lines were requested by us after extensive testing at this time last year. We asked for this specific colour becuase it stood out really well against all of the autumnal bank-side backgrounds - it's like a Beige / Dark Ivory colour. Jack and I had an entertaining discussion on what we call the colour, I wanted to call it something really pretentious - like 'Poached Smoke' - but Jack won the day and we've called it Dark Ivory:

Our man in Bosnia has been on the tools again - here's his stunning secret nymph selection

Our 'man in Bosnia' has been at it again - with some more very tempting nymphs - especially tied for success in late Autumn & all through Winter. We try to plan all of our fly selection at least 3 months in advance, when asked what we were planning for the Autumn/Winter preiod, we wanted to do something a little different, so we asked him to surprise us and tie something which he would use himself, for trout, grayling and softmouth trout in Bosnia.

Grab a Gregg's - The Fisherman's Friend

Today is the closing day of the trout season on my local river - as you're reading this I will probably have just left Gregg's with a few sausage rolls and a coffe - and heading down to the river to get my last 'trout' fix of the year - althought if I'm honest, I would prefer to hook into a few Grayling, as they are just sytarting to show themselves.

Don't Get Skunked - The Grayling Edition

You know that sinking feeling ... You’ve driven an hour to the river, the air’s so cold your breath looks like steam off a kettle, and you’re standing in the water like a man trying to summon fish by telepathy. You’ve tried every nymph in the box, changed to thinner tippet twice, even whispered a few choice words to the fish gods — and still, nothing.

From Pinkies to Parachutes — Grayling From The Top

On Tuesday, we served a specialist Grayling dessert underwater with the French Pinkies. Today, we’re taking the sweet trolley to the surface. Grayling are my favourite species, and what better way to tempt one than with a dry fly? You know that little swirl you see mid-afternoon in autumn — the one that makes you question whether anything is actually hatching, or if the river is just teasing you?

French Fancies - These Are Exceedingly Good!

You know those little French cakes you see in the bakery window? Perfectly iced, pink, and smugly sitting there like they know they’re better than a custard cream. Well … meet the fly-fishing equivalent.

"Use the force" - On Your Local Water This Weekend

We are in a pretty fortunate position as a fly supplier - we get to see the trends of which flies are popular at all times of the year. I noticed a big uptick in stillwater lures/attractor patterns over the last couple of weeks - we've also received lots of feedback from customers saying that lure-style patterns are working really well.

Early Knockings - for Grayling

Firstly, I'd like to thank all of you who took up our XStreme Thermal Jacket Offer over the weekend (you will not be disappointed) - for those of you who were not interested, please accept my apologies for clogging up your inbox. We're back onto the flies this week - starting with something to tempt the Grayling ...
