We're going to try something a little different this week, with our first-ever video review of a fly - in this video, I show you the fly, but more importantly, I also show you where to fish it - all in high-definition video!
As the summer continues, those of you who fish regularly will have noticed that the bank-side foliage just seems to get denser every time you visit the water. These are ideal conditions for all sorts of insects to thrive, from small leaf-eating insects to a hoard of beetles and ants. This is prime time for all terrestrial activity on both rivers and stillwaters.
We're a pretty geeky bunch here at Barbless Flies, and our interest is regularly piqued when we see something really exceptional - be it a unique reel seat on a custom rod, or a nicely tied fly - I know, we're sad like that. But we regularly receive products which are the best quality you can buy, and because of that quality - so few are available.
Weather conditions always play a major role in successful stillwater fishing, even more so in the summer months - this can be a very unpredictable season - sometimes baking hot and sometimes wet.
In this week's email, we have a NEW dry-fly specific leader from Massimo, hand-tied in Italy and we've now restocked with one of our most popular dry fly selections - The Adams Selection.
My local river (The Yorkshire Derwent) is fishing really well at the moment - if you know the secret - that secret is small flies, none of your size 10 budgies here, it's all size 16 and smaller dry flies fished on long leaders - especially if your fishing in the warmer afternoons.
It's safe to say that we are now on first name terms with our local DPD & DHL delivery guys! We've had so many parcels of flies arrive over the last few days that we've only just managed to list them all on the site. I've decided to just pick out two of the most popular selections for this 'back in stock' email, we wouldn't want to overwhelm you!
As we are now drawing towards the close of the Mayfly season, I hope it's been good for you - I know here in North Yorkshire, the fish are now confidently taking mayflies and the evenings are the time to be on the water - our attention starts to focus on which flies will work post-mayfly!
We're continuing the special launch offer on our 2022/23 Stillwater Fly Anglers Almanac until midnight on Sunday, so I thought it would be helpful to answer the most asked questions since we launched the Almanac on Wednesday.
Our 2022/23 Stillwater Fly Anglers Almanac is a paperback book with 350gsm covers, printed using high-quality uncoated paper (allowing you to easily jot any notes etc), it is roughly 130 pages long. To see the contents of our Stillwater Almanac and example pages, please keep reading.
When we released our 'River Fly Anglers Almanac' earlier this year, we had lots of great feedback about it - however, there was one question everyone asked - "When will you release the Stillwater one?".
Well, we've been hard at work on it since the beginning of the year and we've received the finished copies.
