Ryan's been at it again - and my fly box problem just got worse!

Morning,

I hope you've had a lovely Christmas.

I can just picture you sitting there on Christmas morning, surrounded by wrapping paper, wondering why Great Aunt Maude thought you needed another pair of novelty socks, and thinking, "you know what, I deserve a little something for myself."

Well, I've got just the thing:

But first, I need to let you know I've a bit of a 'fly box problem'. The sort of 'fly box problem' where I see a nice fly box and my brain immediately goes "YES, I NEED THAT".

I seem to be always on the lookout for that special box (or boxes) that covers all bases:

  • Holds flies securely
  • I can see the contents with the lid closed
  • Slim enough to easily fit in a chest pocket; and
  • Looks and feels great

I know we're all tackle tarts at heart - so the "looks and feels great" element is usually somewhere near the top of the list!

I recently contacted Ryan - our artist friend over in the USA who does all our artwork - to see about giving our designs a little refresh. He sent me through some of his latest designs.

My first thought was: "Right, these would look brilliant on our NEW fly boxes."

My second thought was: "Everyone else probably needs these too."

My third thought was: "These are proper works of art. Like, Picasso-level stuff." (Okay, maybe I'm getting carried away, but have you seen them?):

When Fly Boxes Meet Fine Art

Ryan's outdone himself this time. He's created three stunning pieces of fish art for us:

  • A Brown Trout Flank
  • A Rainbow Trout Flank; and
  • A Brook Trout Flank

We've had Ryan's artwork transferred to what I reckon might be the best fly boxes we've ever stocked.

There's something about the colours and the detail in each of Ryan's pieces that captures exactly why we do our sport in the first place. The Brown Trout has that perfect spotted magnificence, and the Rainbow ... well, it's a rainbow trout, they're basically showing off by nature. There's also a Brook Trout design, and whilst it's not native to us here in the UK, we had to include it - the design is epic.

I'll be honest: when these arrived and I saw Ryan's designs on the boxes, I had a brief moment where I considered just keeping them empty and making some sort of art installation with them. Then I remembered I'm supposed to be running a fly fishing business, not a gallery.

But here's the thing: these aren't just pretty boxes.

These are proper 'every-day' fly boxes. The triangular-slit silicone system (which sounds like something from a medical catalogue but is actually brilliant) holds up to 93 flies securely. They're only 15mm deep, so you can easily slip a couple into your vest pocket.

The lime green silicone backing gives you high contrast against any fly pattern - so selecting the right fly (even in low light) is really easy. And the magnetic latch system keeps everything safe and secure, even when your fingers are freezing.

Our 'Fish Art' Fly Boxes measure 13cm x 9cm x 1.5cm, which in old money is "about the size of your phone".

These are a limited-run trial (translation: we might not make any more)

We're trialling these stunning boxes, which means we've done a limited run to see if you are as daft as I am about beautiful but functional fly boxes. If they sell out and we don't make more, you'll all hate me. If they sit on our shelves gathering dust, I'll hate myself.

I promise that if we do sell out, we will make some more pretty quickly!

So really, buying one is a public service.

At £25 each, they're priced at that perfect point where you can treat yourself to something unique without feeling guilty. Consider it a reward for surviving another round of family Christmas dinner.

Go on, you know you want to!

The bottom line.

Ryan's created something genuinely special with these designs, and seeing those designs on our boxes ... well, they're even better than I imagined.

They're functional, beautiful, and slim enough that you can justify carrying several. Which, knowing how my brain works around fly boxes, means I'll definitely end up filling all three over the next week and look forward to using them in the new year.

As always, we deliver for free anywhere in the UK, and if you're not happy with them, we'll sort you out.

Right, I'm going to spend the next few days reorganising my fly boxes ... Again.

Tight lines.

P.S. If you're wondering which of our 'Arty' fly boxes to choose, the scientifically correct answer is "all three." Trust me, I've done the research.
