"We all need help now and then"
Those are Paul Whitehouse's words, not mine — though I wish I'd said them first.
Paul wrote the foreword to our new River Fly Anglers Almanac, and in it he describes something I suspect every one of us has done ...
- You arrive at an unfamiliar river.
- Fish are rising.
- You can't quite work out what they're taking so you bung on an Adams, a Klinkhammer, something black, maybe even a daddy, and hope for the best.
- If nothing's rising? A bead headed GRHE.
- Can't decide? Klink and Dink it.
He calls it "chuck it and chance it." And honestly? I've been doing exactly that for longer than I care to admit.
The thing is, it sort of works. Until it doesn't. Until you're on a new stretch, or the conditions have changed, or the fish are being really selective, then what do you do?
That's what our Almanac is for.
Not to replace your instinct - instinct matters, and there's nothing wrong with a confidence fly, like our Jack Daniels. But to give you something to fall back on when instinct alone isn't enough:
Here's what's inside:
- 142 pages and 17,380 words - six months in the writing and completely rewritten from our original edition.
- Brand new monthly watercraft sections covering the river conditions you can expect and how to manage them.
- Detailed fly selection that goes beyond "try this" to explain why, when, and how.
- And as a special Launch Offer, it comes with a separate 52-page Diary with monthly Catch Return and Notes pages, so you keep building your own knowledge over time.
- And a foreword by Paul Whitehouse that makes you feel like you're chatting to a mate on the bank.
As Paul says: "Keep this great guide with you at all times and your experiences with a fly rod will surely improve."

P.S. If you owned the original Almanac, thank you. I've spent six months rewriting this from the ground up because I wanted to make it genuinely worth your time. Same spirit, completely new content. I think you'll notice the difference on your first read.
P.P.S. The trout season opens in March. Get this in your pocket before opening day and you'll be ready from the first cast.
