I don't know where in the country you are reading this, but if you're anywhere near the North-East coast (like us), you will probably be underneath a blanket of heavy snow.

Our rivers are all in perfect condition, if only I could get near one - we've had 8 inches of snow and, as usual, all the country roads are virtually impassable!

Last year, we had either too much water or not enough - this year so far, they're perfect, if only I could reach one!

Our 'man in Bosnia' has been on the tools again - with some more very tempting mini-streamers (Bjelica Zonkers - using Pine Squirrel) - especially tied for success all through Winter - for Stillwaters Trout, Coarse Fish, Grayling - and even worth saving for those tricky early season river sessions.

We try to plan all of our fly selections at least 3 months in advance. When asked what we were planning for the tricky Jan / Feb period, we wanted to do something a little different, so we asked him to surprise us and tie something which he would use himself, for trout, grayling and softmouth trout in Bosnia during the Winter months.

Our Pine Squirrel Mini-Streamer Selection is a premium fly designed for anglers who demand maximum realism, subtle movement and consistent performance when targeting trout and small predatory species in stillwaters, rivers and streams.

Tied on a high-quality Size 8 AHREX FW525 barbless hooks, these streamers combine excellent strength with a lightweight profile, allowing for a controlled sink rate and natural presentation - ideal for shallow margins, glides and slow-moving water.

The tail and legs are made from carefully selected pine squirrel zonker, a natural material renowned for its soft fibres and exceptional underwater movement. The legs are tied using a refined dubbing loop technique, producing constant pulsation and lifelike vibrations that convincingly imitate small baitfish or struggling prey.

Each mini-streamer is then finished with 4 mm silver 3D eyes, securely set with UV resin, adding visual trigger points while ensuring long-lasting durability, even after repeated use.

These Pine Squirrel Mini-Streamers / Lures are extremely versatile and effective across a wide range of retrieves:

• Slow figure-of-eight retrieve in still waters to maximise the natural movement of the squirrel fibres
• Short, controlled strips with brief pauses to imitate an injured baitfish
• Swing and hang across small rivers and streams, allowing the fly to pulse naturally in the current
• Upstream presentation in shallow water, letting the fly drift briefly before adding gentle movement
