The nymph that puts the "rock" in rock-hopping and the "roll" in dead-drift.
Rhyacophila caddis larvae are the unsung heroes of UK rivers. While every angler knows about the Sedge hatch, far fewer appreciate the year-round importance of these free-roaming predatory larvae that prowl the riverbed, clinging to stones and cobbles in the current.
Unlike their case-building cousins, Rhyacophila don't hide away in protective shelters. These aggressive little hunters roam freely across the substrate, making them prime targets for feeding trout and grayling throughout the year, especially during the colder months when other food sources are scarce.
Our Rock n Roll Rhyaco Selection includes 12 flies - 3 each of the 4 different colour variations. We also have the option to include one of our new Slimline Silicone fly boxes for an additional £12.50.
Our Rock n Roll Rhyaco Selection is built for the job:
- They are ALL Size 14 - Our selection includes 3 each of Black, Pink, Red & White
- Wired body gives you the weight to get down quickly in fast, broken water
- Hard resin coating ensures these flies survive repeated encounters with toothy grayling and the rocky riverbed
- Size 14 – the sweet spot for UK rivers, equally effective for trout and grayling
- Four deadly body colours to match varying water conditions and naturals: black (classic dark water), pink (highly visible attractor), red (bloodworm imitation crossover), white (clear water and bright days)
How To Fish Them:
Fish the Rock n Roll Rhyaco tight to the riverbed using a dead-drift nymphing technique. Target the faster runs, pocket water, and areas where the current breaks over rocks, exactly where Rhyacophila thrive. Use them as your point fly in a two-nymph rig, or fish solo under an indicator in heavier water.
They're particularly deadly during winter and into early spring when grayling are actively feeding on these larvae, but don't overlook them during the summer months either, trout never stop eating them.
Tied to last. Weighted to fish. Designed to catch.
We currently have these selection in stock and will ship these to you as soon as we receive notification of your payment. Generally, if a payment is made in the morning (and you choose our 1st Class option at the checkout) your flies will be with you the very next day.
