This pattern draws on the Czech nymphing tradition: slim, weighted flies tied on strong grub hooks to imitate the freshwater shrimps & scuds that make up so much of a river trout's diet. Developed by Czech competition anglers to get down to the fish quickly in fast water, the style has become a mainstay on rivers across the world, and the Derwent Shrimp carries that heritage forward.

A typical characteristic of a Czech-style nymph is the slim profile (to allow it to sink quickly), a back covered with foil/latex/shellback and a wire rib.

Czech Nymph fishing is a style of nymph fishing practised by keeping in close contact with the flies at close range, generally in faster riffles (so you can get closer to the fish) just under the rod tip. In most cases, there is no fly line outside of the rod tip and a Czech indicator/8m leader is used. This gives you an enhanced feel for the flies as they are drifting along the river bed.
The Derwent Shrimp - This shrimp pattern is tied with various body and wire colour combinations on AHREX FW541 hooks in sizes 16 & 18.
