Barbless Mini Muddlers. We have a selection of barbless muddlers, specially tied for stillwater & river fishing, ideally targeting rainbow, brown & blue trout.
The Muddler Minnow (which these are based on) was invented by Don Gapen of Minnesota, in 1937, to imitate the sculpin. The Muddler, as it is informally known by anglers, was popularised by Montana fisherman and fly tier Dan Bailey. It is now a popular pattern worldwide with the flies distinguished by their clipped deer hair heads.
Our take on the standard muddler patterns are tied on smaller hooks (Size 10 & 12 ), whereas standard muddlers are generally tied on size 8 or larger.
These are great fished in the margins with a slow retrieve. They also work well as mini-streamers fished (with weight or a sink-tip line) in deep weir pools on rivers!
These flies are all tied on strong barbless size 10 & 12 hooks. This selection comes with 16 mini muddlers (4 different patterns, 2 of each sizes 8 and 10).
We only have a small number of these selections available. If the demand is there we will have more tied and offer them alongside our other stillwater/river selections. Descriptions and photo's of the flies can be found below:
