The CdC Red-Neck Tungsten Pupa Selection - from Barbless Flies
The inspiration for these Specialist Tungsten Nymphs came from our existing Tungsten Nymph Selection, which are by far our best-selling nymphs for both Trout & Grayling. These patterns work exceptionally well using the Euro Nymphing style - try putting a size 10 or 12 on the dropper with a size 16 on the point in a really heavy flow - that way you can fish both Tungsten jigs close to the riverbed.
Our selection contains a total of 16 CdC Red-Neck Tungsten Pupas - 2 each of:
- CdC Red-Neck Pupa Brown - Size 12 & 14
- CdC Red-Neck Pupa Grey - Size 10, 12 & 16
- CdC Red-Neck Pupa Olive - Size 10, 12 & 16
These flies are tied with either silver, gold or gunmetal tungsten beads:
- Size 10 - 4.0mm
- Size 12 - 3.6mm
- Size 14 - 3.2mm; and
- Size 16 - 2.6mm
Each of these specialist tungsten nymphs has been tied on the super-strong barbless AHREX FW541 barbless nymph hook.
The best fly for the river? This style of fly probably accounts for more fish than any other flies I use. It represents a wide range of river nymphs and is ideal for both Trout & Grayling. Fished on its own or as a part of a duo (New Zealand Rig), this fly is deadly.
Each of the tungsten jig nymphs weighs as follows:
- Size 10 - 0.60g
- Size 12 - 0.36g
- Size 14 - 0.24g
- Size 16 - 0.16g
Here's a quick description of each nymph:
