The Nattslända Caddis/Sedge Selection

The Nattslända Caddis/Sedge Selection - from Barbless Flies

A dry fly imitation for Caddis/Sedge hatches on both Rivers and Stillwaters.

This Swedish-inspired caddis/sedge imitation features a detached foam body, designed to create a highly natural silhouette on the water. The thorax is made from Pine Squirrel Natural dubbing, giving it a lifelike, soft, and buggy texture that enhances realism. There is also an underwrapped hackle to ensure a 'buggy' appearance and aid buoyancy in rougher water, ensuring a natural presentation and excellent visibility. It also doubles up as a cracking smaller Daddy Long-Legs/Crane fly imitation - which will come in handy towards the end of August.

How to Fish It - The pattern is incredibly versatile and can be fished in several ways depending on the water and fish activity:
  • Dead drift - Cast upstream into the evening rise, mend, let it travel. Start here.
  • The Twitch - Caddis swim to the bank before hatching. Occasionally, skate the fly across the surface during the drift. Trout know this behaviour. They respond to it.
  • Duo rig - pair it with a nymph on the dropper for rivers where fish are still holding deep but beginning to look up.
  • Stillwater - Floating line, figure-of-eight or static. In this heat, fish the margins in last two hours of light. Leave it, let any breeze take it and watch.
Our Nattslanda Selection contains a total of 12 flies - 3 each of the 4 different colours.

How to Fish It - The Nattslanda is incredibly versatile and can be fished in several ways depending on the water and fish activity:
  • Dead Drift: Cast it upstream and let it drift naturally with the current. This is highly effective for trout sipping emergers.
  • The Strip/Twitch: Because it mimics a swimming insect making its way to the bank, you can occasionally twitch your rod tip during a dead drift to impart a lifelike wake.
  • The Emerger Tandem: If the fly rides too low and is hard to track visually, you can fish it as a dropper behind a larger, buoyant dry fly (like a standard elk hair caddis), which also helps you detect subtle takes.

Tied on the AHREX FW525 Size 14 barbless dry fly hook, this Emerging Caddis Pupa sits in - not on - the surface film, imitating a caddis pupa at the point of emergence.

Our Nattslanda Selection contains a total of 12 flies - 3 each of the 4 different colours.

Works equally well on rivers (upstream dead drift or duo rig) and stillwaters (floating line, figure-of-eight or static).
