The Barbless Ant Selection - Each one a work of Art!

We are always on the look out for something that little bit special, and we think we have found some flies which we believe you will really appreciate. This Ant Selection has been painstakingly hand tied for us in the USA by Rich Lewis. Each one is a work of art in its own right! We make no apologies for the price of these, they are absolutely stunning re-creations - think of them as works of ant art! We dare not ask how long each one takes to make.

The Ants are all tied on Daiichi 1250 hooks (1251's for the black ants). The Dennis Brown designed hook has a continuous bend up-eye, standard wire, 1X-long, barbless, slightly offset hook. All of the ants are tied on size 16 hooks, as those are the best representation for size.

The three hackled Ants (Black, Red & Cinnamon) are tied using Whiting Farms Hackles. The rubber-legged Ants are a lighter Root Beer colour. The consistency among them is first class, but please bare in mind that these flies are not clones, rather "cousins"; as it is quite impossible to make them identically.

How to fish these flies (if you dare)!

1) Tie them on as a dropper 12 inches  behind a bead head nymph or a weighted wet fly; such as a mayfly nymph or emerger.

2) Free line them on a long leader from a floating fly line and allow them to slowly sink through the water column.

3) Lastly, these ants are deadly fished under an indicator. Try them with our Dry Jig Selection - they are phenomenal!

--- Streams or Stillwaters - fish eat ants all the year around ---
