Tie Unique, High-Quality Fly Patterns
"it's all about the best quality materials and attention to detail"
Feathersmith was born from the passion we have here at Barbless Flies for fly fishing. We treat all of our flies as we would a piece of jewellery and look at each as a miniature work of art - it's all about quality materials and attention to detail.
Feathersmith: The Highest Quality Fly Tying Kits Available Today

We've decided to adopt a new approach to fly tying - one that looks at the life of a fly from the 'cradle to grave' - or, 'vice to tree' may be more apt!
Using this holistic approach allows us to give you much more than 'just a box full of materials and a few hooks'. Included in each kit (as well as all the materials) we cover the whole lifecycle of the fly, from its history, to full tying instructions and then how best to fish it - all in video format.

With the help of some professional fly tyers, we've identified some really beautiful and unique fly patterns, gathered together all of the materials from world-class and well respected manufacturers (like Semperfli & Ahrex) and then created a kit which allows you to tie one specific pattern - 30 of each pattern, in 3 different hook sizes.
Here's what's included when you purchase one of our Feathersmith pattern specific kits:
- A kit full of world-class materials - more than enough to tie all 30 flies in the kit
- A 'here's one I made earlier' sample pre-tied fly
- A video tutorial detailing the history of the fly you are tying
- A video tutorial of how to tie the fly - presented by a professional fly tyer
- A video tutorial of how to use and fish the finished fly
One quote you will always hear is "It's more expensive to tie your own flies than it is to buy them." - not anymore it isn't, our Feathersmith kits allow you to tie a stunning pattern with the very best materials available - all for less than £1 per fly - now that is great value.

Each Feathersmith Kit Contains World-Class Tying Materials
At Barbless Flies we regularly get asked about how best to get into fly-tying, with customers asking which fly tying kits are best to start with. We always answer with the following response: "Don't buy a 'do it all' starter kit!" The reason is - all 'starter' kits are stuffed full of low-quality materials, 95% of which you will never use. We always advise this:
- First decide which pattern you want to tie; then, and only then
- Buy the materials you need to just tie that pattern.
- Buy the best materials you can afford - it makes tying easier and produces a much better quality fly.
Often, the materials you need to complete one single fly pattern have to be sourced from numerous different suppliers, making it quite time-consuming (and expensive) to complete. So, we decided to do the hard work for you and make up our own.
These Feathersmith Kits, take a single successful (and unique) pattern and give you all the materials you need to tie up 30 of them (10 each of three different sizes).
We started by looking for unique fly patterns which are both successful and not too dificult to tie. We then gathered together all of the materials to tie each fly - sourced from world-class and well respected manufacturers:

Once we had sourced the contents for each kits, we then wanted to give you as much value as possible, this is why alongside each kit of 30 flies, you also gain access to:
- A video on the history of the fly you are tying
- A video tutorial of how to tie the fly - presented by a professional fly tyer
- A video on how to use and fish the finished fly
I hope you will agree that a Feathersmith Kit is not just a box full of hooks and materials - it's more of an experience!
